***Jan 3-5, 2020🎉***
Happy New Year🎊🎉🥂!! You’re probably too busy thinking of your 2020 travel plans to think about this weekend. It’s all good, we have a few suggestions for you. Maybe you’re ready to hit the slopes⛷, or you’re not done Christmas Marketting🎄. Well if you’re ready to start #1 of 52 awesome🤯 weekends in 2020, then this post is for you!!
If you are like us, you have a couple ski⛷ (or just snowy☃️) vacations in the Alps planned over the next couple of months. Maybe you need somewhere to get your ski legs underneath you. Here are a few places that are open!!
**Below are two indoor ski areas open year-round.
*Snowhall Amneville (France)- 1.5hrs
We’ve been here a few times during all seasons of the year. I love how it’s never crowded and the cost is reasonable. Two hours is plenty to enjoy yourself and scratch the skiing itch. For non-skiers, they also have sledding!
*Snow World Landgraaf (The Netherlands)- 3hrs
Europe’s largest indoor ski area is only a day trip away!!
**Below are a few outdoor ski areas. ACHTUNG!! Due to low snowfall this year, these places have only a few runs open. Make sure you check ski conditions before heading out there.
*Skigebiet Feldberg- 3hrs
*Ski Resort La Bresse Hohneck
*KL on Ice (until Feb 16)
I know, I’ve been plugging this for a while, but you were too busy with Christmas Markets. Head downtown to the Gartenschau and enjoy ice skating⛸ right here in Kaiserslautern!!
—REALLY? CHRISTMAS MARKETS?—
I don’t know about y’all, but I’m DONE with Christmas Markets until November 2020 (you DID see our 5 Market Adventure, right?). But for the determined, below are a few you can still visit this weekend.
*Speyer Weihnachts und Neujahrsmarkt (until Jan 6th)
*Baden-Baden Weihnachtsmarkt (until Jan 6th)
*Weihnachtsstadt Liege, Belgium (until Jan 7th)
*The 12 Tenors @Kaiserslautern (Jan 4)
*Neujahrsschwimmen Baumholder (Jan 5)
If you are crazy enough to go swimming in an outdoor pond in Baumholder, please send me pics 😂.
*Skate Night 2020 Mainz (Jan 4)
*Horse Day Camp, Roth Horse Ranch Neunkirchen (Jan 4)
—FREE WALKING TOURS—
My favorite way to experience a new city is by signing up for a FREE WALKING TOUR☂️🚶♂️🚶♀️! Remember that most of the guides are free-lancers and college students, so don’t forget to tip!! For now on, Weekend Editon will include links to day trip Free Walking Tours in English. Check the link for availability before heading out. Almost all tours run daily.
*Free Walking Tour Luxembourg
*Free Walking Tour Heidelberg
*Amazing Strasbourg Free Tour
*Frankfurt Free Tour
*Cologne Free Tour
*Free Walking Tour of Stuttgart
*Free Walking Tour Mannheim
They do it in either German or English based off of participants, but I would contact them first.
