***Nov 15-17, 2019***
Over the next month and a half, everyone is going to be Christmas Market crazy 🎄! What you won’t get from us is “yet another” top 10 Christmas Market bucket list 🙄. Instead we will give tips each week on recommended markets and how to maximize your adventure. If you are ready to uncover a new adventure this weekend, then this post is for you!!
🚉Take the train.
🤟We’ll be there! Say “hi”!
👨👩👧👦 Our family friendly picks.
If you are new here, don’t be overwhelmed with all the “Top 10 Christmas Markets” lists. Do people really think you’ll spend the next 7 weeks travelling across Europe just to check the box? Like, yeah… I’m really going to the Manchester Christmas Market this weekend, scooting over to Paris next weekend, hitting up Vienna on my free time, and taking a day trip to Berlin. Sure.
My resolve to you over the next month is to help make your Christmas Market adventure practical. You can hit many world class Christmas Markets on a day trip from Kaiserslautern. For many, you can bundle your trip by seeing multiple Christmas Markets in a single day. Others, you can add to the adventure by taking the train. Let me help you do that this Christmas season.
So what are we waiting for? Los geht’s.
**3 for 3 Christmas Market Circuit
This weekend, I recommend the 3 for 3 circuit for the very adventurous. Only a handful of Christmas Markets are open this weekend, but you can go to 3 Christmas Markets in 3 countries. Here’s how.
*Duisburger Weihnachtsmarkt (Nov 14-Dec 30)
First stop, Duisburg. A 3 hour drive from Kaiserslautern, this Christmas Market is one of the few markets in Germany open this weekend. We recommend this market first to get it out of the way. If your trip extends into Sunday, you may find it has limited hours, as Sunday is Germany’s Day of Mourning.
*Valkenburg Caves Christmas Market (Nov 15-Dec 29)🤟
From Duisburg, drive an hour and a half southwest to the CAVES Christmas Market for stop #2. Here you can tour a Christmas Market that is both under and above ground! Make sure you bring your passport, since it’s just over the border in The Netherlands.
*Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg Christmas Market (Nov 16-Dec 23)
From the caves, drive 2 hours south to one of the nearest markets to Kaiserslautern that is open this weekend. After this visit, finish your trip with a 1.5hr trip home.
–Here are a few other nearby Christmas Markets open this weekend–
*Internationaler Weihnachtsmarkt Essen (Nov 15-Dec 23)
*Oberhausen Weihnachtsmarkt (Nov 15-Dec 23)
*Christmas Garden Wilhelma, Stuttgart Zoo (until Jan 6)
*Wanterfeeling2019, Sanem Luxembourg (Nov 15-17)
Winter themed festival in Luxembourg
*Weihnachtsausstellung, St. Wendel (Nov 16-17)
Christmas exhibition in St. Wendel
*75th Anniversary of Liberation of Strasbourg Observance (Nov 17)
*Harlem Globetrotters in Kaiserslautern (Nov 15)
*Harlem Globetrotters in Wiesbaden (Nov 16)
