Apple Picking *in Germany*

Things are so much cooler because we are doing them in Germany. For example, apple picking *in Germany*? Yes please!

Just outside of Mainz is Appel Happel, a great apple orchard and a perfect day trip for our family on a beautiful (almost) Fall afternoon.

From farm-fresh fruit and vegetables to pick-your-own apples and pears, Appel Happel offers delightful treats year round. The apples are ready for picking from August to September.

They also sell apple wine, juice, and cider and other fresh items in their farm store.

You can enjoy coffee and cake in their snack area. (I am trying to eat healthy these days, yet the crumb cake was SO WORTH IT!)

Our carton of apples cost just over €20 – they last just about forever and taste SO sweet. Time to look up some delicious apple recipes.

The annual Mainz Apple Festival will take place next weekend, September 21-22 at Appel Happel. They will have pony rides, a bouncy castle, farm animals, and fresh squeezed apple juice. We went to the festival last year and had a great time.

They really do it right at the fest! Chocolate covered apples?! Yumm!

A 1-hour drive or 2-hour train ride from Kaiserslautern HBF to Mainz-Marienborn, visiting the farm is a great way to ring in Fall. Check out their page for more info on special events like Night Picking and the Apple Fest: Appel Happel (open in Google Chrome for instant English translation)

HAPPY PICKING!
